Judo is one of the most exciting and thrilling fitness sports for a child. It’s one of the most fun activities for kids! It’s a safe way to train and develop skills as well as stay in shape. Mainly, we want to ensure your child is immersed in a rich fitness experience where they feel comfortable to express themselves in healthy ways. If your child has previously done gymnastics and loved it, this could be a totally new way for them to use the skills they’ve learned and mastered!
DEVELOP YOUR KARATE KID SKILLS!
If your child is bouncing off the walls with excitement, this could be just the outlet for them. What better way to develop their skills? There are so many after-school programs available, but there aren’t any that are more fun than our martial art classes! In addition to the general benefits of physical fitness, there are also many skills that can be developed and mastered through the sport of judo.
There are many different skills which can be mastered at different levels of training. It is through a lot of training that your child will be able to really harness the confidence in themselves that they need in order to be successful and pursue their dreams. Did you know that judo uses not only the physical body but also requires mastery of the mind and emotions?
In our classes, we teach different techniques such as grappling, throwing, hold downs, arm locks, chokes and striking. These are all movements that are taught with the utmost attention to safety. Other skills your child will be able to develop are: flexibility, speed, agility, harnessing power, coordination and strength. It’s really an entire cardiovascular activity! Your child will develop their core balance! From pee wee to youth to teens, we offer a class for every age group!
HISTORY OF JUDO
The practice of judo as a sport was originally developed in Japan over one thousand years ago. The sport is characterized by three specific details: jujuitsu, mixed with wrestling blended with strong mental discipline. This is why it is a great activity for kids. Practiced by the samurai of Japan, the sport used to involve the use of bow and arrows and swords (don’t worry, it doesn’t in the classes we teach!). This sport has seen much popularity in North America through the introduction of it into the Olympics. Today, this sport is exciting, invigorating and great fun for anyone who tries it. Young or old, this sport is for everyone. If you’re looking to sign up yourself as well, we offer adult classes!
AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS: JUDO CLASSES
Beginning in September 2017, your child will be able to take judo classes as an after-school program! It will be offered Monday to Friday 2:30 pm to 6 pm and there will be after-school pickups to designated schools in surrounding areas. These areas include: Central Park, Carlington, Westboro, Island Park and Parkwood Hills). If you would like your school on the list, give us a call and we can coordinate it. Schools with the most participants will be considered first. We will have more details available soon.
ABOUT THE COACH: TINA TAK
Did you know Tina Takahashi holds an Ontario’s teachers certificate on top of being a certified 6th degree black belt? Tina has many years’ experience working with children and helping them develop their skills.
She has many years’ experience as an elementary and high school substitute teacher before she decided to pursue her passion and open up her own centre and offer martial art classes! In addition to this experience, Tina has done many speaking engagements, demonstrations and teachings in after-school programs all over Ontario. She’s even instructed the Prime Minister’s children (whose father, Pierre Trudeau is a judoka!). Check out some fun facts below:
